Dish Scoop and More

So, the guy came and installed Dish. Yes it took 5 HOURS to do, but it IS in. He had to cement some poles in the ground for the satellite dishes to stand on because he couldn't find a place on our house. I guess that took longer than expected or at least I expected.

After he got them installed, he started to tell me how to do the DVR. YA'LL!! I started giggling I was so excited, which made me embarrassed for being to excited. Anyhoo - It's working and I can't wait to tape(Is that even the word you use with DVR?) 24 OR Heroes tonight and get to watch which one I don't tape. YEAH!! You would think it was Christmas or something around here. So silly I guess when you think about it.

*UPDATE* - So everyone asked about Avery and the TAKS test. We won't know the results for a few months, BUT she came out with a smile on her face which speaks VOLUMES!! She even finished BEFORE lunchtime which was another GREAT sign. So thank you for the prayers. I cannot tell you how much that meant to me.

I am fixing to go work my first Dittos For Kiddos sale this afternoon. Those of you who don't know about it, it is our local top of the line children's consignment sale. When you work it, you get to be one of the first ones to shop. So, I am going today to help people get their stuff in the sale. It is SO organized. I just hope that they have some really great stuff in Avery's size. We don't get ANY hand-me-downs for her since she is the oldest. She just needs so many Spring and Summer clothes. We'll see.

I'll leave you with a couple of funny things that Parker has said in the last week or so.

We are riding in the car and out of the blue she says, "Mom, Jesus is NOT a number".

I was jumping up cleaning the walls with a wipe and she starts laughing and says," Mom, your bottom is shaking". Nothing like the honesty of a child!!

  • Now Nicole...your bottom is shaking!!!!! Ha..that is so funny I'm laughing out loud......adorable.
We have a huge consignment here that starts tomorrow...I shop for the kids there checking things out...I consign at the local Consignment store downtown...I make anywhere from $100-$300 a season believe it or not....I'm all for that...have a great day...

By Blogger Jen, at 1:16 PM

  • Austin (age 7) often points out Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers commercials to me. I get the hint...sheesh

By Blogger LaShawn, at 1:44 PM

  • Ok- laughing about your bottom shaking because that is totally what my kids would say... ah, kids.

And about the DVR- you'll see that the new verb for "taping" or "recording" your favorite show is officially "Tivo" even if you don't really have a Tivo. You'll hear lots of people say "I'm gonna have to Tivo it" or something like that... kinda like people call a general search for something on the web "googling" even if they aren't searching at Google.com. And that's the latest as far as I know! Enjoy!

By Blogger Stephanie Wilson she/her @babysteph, at 1:50 PM

  • LOL LOL LOL oh the honesty of kids :) that is too funny sort of like my 7 year old son and the meatball comment he made about a month ago.
Bet your loving that DVR aren't ya???? I would be all giddy and happy with it also. I'm behind on my 24 watching. 2 weeks ago they did the 2 hour show of 24 well i just watched the 2nd hour of that this morning, So I still have last weeks 24 to watch and I know i won't get to that before this weeks 24 comes on tonight so I'll have 2 hours of 24 on a VHS tape to watch sometime soon. I HEART 24 :)

By Blogger KC, at 1:52 PM

  • I am sooo excited you got DVR! You are going to love it! I just love Parker - she makes me laugh! Be blessed.

By Blogger Sarah, at 2:09 PM

  • see Nicole I think we are so much alike!
Kids are so funny! I cant wait to HEAR how you love the DVR! no more tapes now its recordings!
Glad to hear Avery did well!
Wish WE had a consignment shop but our towns around here are to small for those i guess...

By Blogger palmtreefanatic, at 2:27 PM

  • I call it Tivo as well. Even though I don't have a Tivo just a DVR. It makes it easier. Hayden is constantly bringing me the remote and telling me when a show will be on so I can Tivo it. THe whole family is addicted. I wish I could watch the things I record on any TV not just the DVR one. I constantly have all 4 kids in my bedroom fighting over which show they want to watch!!

By Blogger Jennifer (mom of four), at 3:14 PM

  • This is the second time I've had a blog not take my comment! I just typed a big long comment...and it erased it. UGH! So if you happen to have 2 from me...don't publish both! LOL

Ohhhhh that Parker..she's a funny one! That is hilarious! Nothing like the honesty of a child. ha!

Hope your first night of DVR'ing goes smoothly. I don't want to get a panicked call from you saying 24 didn't record or something. LOL Although, that WOULD be a serious emergency I must say! We can't be missing Jack, that just doesn't happen. =)

    Love you!

  • Your bottom is shaking... Oh dear. What a ... darling child.

    Yay for DVR!!! Have fun!!

By Blogger tracey.becker1@gmail.com, at 4:16 PM

  • My hubby would be so jealous. He always has to remember to set the VCR to tape 24 and then watches Heros. We are so old school :)

Glad you upgraded, sorry your bottom shakes!

By Blogger Jamie, at 4:33 PM

  • You are going to LOVE DVR! It is life changing - promise!! :-)

Your bottom is shaking reminded me of that commercial where the kid mistakes his mom for Santa ... have you seen it? Ouch! Kids are so brutal! I got my hair cut last week and the first thing one my students said was "What did you do to your hair?" Not - it looks nice! ha!

By Blogger Lori, at 4:39 PM

  • Here is my favorite truth from a kid:
L is reading which is part of her homework
L-Mom, how much do you weigh?
    Mom-Why?
L-Becuase I am reading and I need to know.
Mom-100 lbs (Which is not true)
    L-Okay
    Mom-Why?
L-Because I just wanted to know if you weigh more than a hippo or not.

By Blogger Amy, at 5:13 PM

  • I LOVE my DVR. Seriously. I don't watch anything live anymore and neither does my daughter. Unfortunately, it has gotten her into the annoying habit of insisting I rewind things she liks over and over again!

By Blogger Unknown, at 6:05 PM

  • Hiya Nicole, thank you for the update and just love the buzz & excitement over at your place....I wanna join you and just spend a week with you :)

By Blogger Shionge, at 6:34 PM

  • Have fun at the consignment sale. I hope that you can find some good stuff! And those comments are great...I am glad that you shared them. :)

By Blogger Anna, at 6:47 PM

  • Nicole.. you got to love kids and their perspective. My husband said God made a woman to shake, Okay? You are too cute to worry about that.

Excitement over cable or satelite is something I understand, I was without it for years too. When you can record your shows, that is too exciting. With a large family the fighting sloowwwsss down a bit.

By Blogger Mrs.Martin, at 7:13 PM

  • It's a good thing that I'm not a vain woman, because being around little kids all the time would just KILL me if I was. Bottom shaking indeed!
That consignment store sounds fantastic - wish we had one locally but our kids get TONS of hand-me-downs from friends with slightly older kids! Handy!

By Blogger Beck, at 7:40 PM

  • AAAAHHHHH!!! Too funny! Today Sophia was micknig me about my legs hurting after doing weihts so I todl her to quit copying me. "Mommy, silly. I'm not a scanner!"
    DOH! SO literal!!!

By Blogger O Mama Mia, at 8:24 PM

  • hahahahaaaa, LOVE IT!
    Kids ROCK!
I am so glad Avery had a good TAKS experience.. I have heard that the 4th grade one is the hardest!
DISH ROCKS, have you added all your shows to your DVR?

By Blogger Lindsay, at 8:40 PM

  • Kids are too funny . . . you bottom shaking. Sometimes it's hard to keep a straight face.

DVR too cool for words...I would get excited too. Have fun.

By Blogger Nadine, at 8:59 PM

  • LOl My Bottom shakes all tyhe time. Im excited aboput the dish. You have me thinking about one for us now.

By Blogger Kim's Life, at 9:34 PM

  • That is funny that you were giggling you were so happy about the DVR!

Glad Avery showed good signs that the testing went well. Yay!

By Blogger Gina, at 9:05 AM

  • Ohhh N, that is too cute! Gotta love it :)

By Blogger Kimba, at 10:14 AM

  • Good for Avery feeling like she did well on the test. Can't wait to hear the results. Congrats on the dish...so jealous.

By Blogger Tasha, at 12:06 PM

  • Hey, Nicole! You are going to love dvr! I always tell people that it will change your life. When we are at my moms house(she doesn't have dvr) my 3year old, Case, always asks her if she will pause his show so he can go to the bathroom! He LOVES the pause buttom! Have fun playing with it!

By Blogger Amy, at 2:05 PM

  • I can totally wait for my DD to tell me of my imperfections!

Glad you like DISH. You will love being able to skip the commericals.

By Blogger Lisa, at 2:53 PM

  • I think you're supposed to say "record" not tape. heehee, but what do I know. I guess Steph said it's "tivo" I'd go with what she says. :)

And girl, I wish my butt was the only that shakes!! ahaha!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:14 PM

  • Glad Avery feels like she did well! I was glad it was over!

Let us know how you live the dvr. you will seriously get spoiled to not watching commerials anymore!

By Blogger mom of 2, at 3:52 PM

  • out of the mouths of babes, eh?

emily told me this week, after seeing that neutrogena anti-wrinkle ad with kelly preston..."mommy, you really could use some of that for your forehead!"

By Blogger Ali, at 6:20 PM

  • Your kids are too funny!

I LOVE TiVo!!! I got that for us for Christmas (EXACT same situation you were saying in your previous post---I got this for you because I really wanted it) and it is AWESOME! It makes television so better to be able to fast forward all those commercials! I'm glad you're liking it!

By Blogger Kari, at 8:30 PM

  • HAHAHA, I'm so imagining that!!! Shake it girl - shake it!! It would be my arms and other areas that would be mobile... The other day my kids asked me what made daddy get fat. They have away with words!!

My hubby LOVES 24. He is so addicted!!

Did you find any deals?! I LOVE LOVE a good deal!!

By Blogger Unknown, at 9:28 PM

  • Oh, from the mouths of babes! Too funny!

By Blogger Nicki, at 10:05 PM

  • That's a crack up. At least it wasn't the installation guy who said that.

By Blogger Scribbit, at 12:21 AM

  • When I am going to live in a true consumer society probabily I would write too about the DVR system...you sent me enough chill through the post to be jealous! chill is in the air...

By Blogger Momo, at 3:07 AM

  • My boys would see, think it, but since they are boys (teens) they wouldnt say it....rofl

I want a upscale consignment shop! *stomping feet*.

Okay, my favorite household, shouldn't live without it item, is a DVR! I don't think we could ever go back to the regular way of watching tv. Noooooooo Never!!!!

By Blogger Trina, at 10:44 AM

  • Soooo....what do you think??? Do you love it?

By Blogger Allison, at 1:37 PM

  • So funny..I remember when my dish guy came and set ours up it took so long I thought I was gonna have to invite him to supper, but definitely worth the wait right?? LOVE the DVR, my hubby and I never watch live TV anymore....plus it gives us more free time to spend with the kids while they are up and they we send them to bed and watch our shows..sooo nice!!
As for the shaking comment...priceless, kids show no mercy!! LOL

By Blogger marykathryn, at 5:09 PM

  • Oh I am obsessed with DVR - although I get stressed that on Comcast, you can't tape more than 2 things at the same time - which is good really because I don't need to be watching that much TV!!!

By Blogger Cloggsy, at 10:00 AM

  • Kids are soo brutally honest sometimes.

We have satellite but dont have a DVR my husband just consented to us getting one finally. So I cant wait to get one.

By Blogger momto3blessings, at 12:31 PM

  • Okay, lol... now all I can remember of your post is what your son said.

That's okay... my 3.5yo told me yesterday that I'm a "bigga bigga momma". I think that was supposed to be a compliment?

By Blogger Michelle, at 3:57 PM

  • Apparantly the DVR works real well, because she hasnt been blogging since....

By Blogger carmachu, at 5:57 PM

  • We have a children's consignment shop???

I saw your hubby again this morning and have decided you don't really exist. Or that you exist but you've stopped coming to church because you're watching all your recorded shows on the DVR.

I still used the approach of pretending I have no idea who he is so as not to scare him. hee hee. :D

By Blogger Flawed And Disorderly, at 9:50 PM

  • Okay...so I have to ask....WHERE ARE YOU? I mean everyone needs a bloggy break...but don't leave us too long Nicole!
