It is what it is??

At my house we have a little pet peave with the saying, "It is what it is". Glen and I always look at each other when we hear anyone say it. It's just a funny saying. I am always so surprised at WHO says it too. I have heard some VERY smart people just throw it out there like it is something smart to say. That''s when Glen and I look at each other like, 'Did you catch that one'? and then of course we roll our eyes at each other. It's just a "thing" with us.

I have a few questions.....Where did it come from? Who started it? What does it mean? Do you or anyone you know say it?

I just think it is one of the funniest saying around and truly just don't get it. But I guess it is what it is, huh?

  • LOL You are hilarious. I have said that before, but never really stopped to think about what it means. I've always just thought of it as meaning.....it is what it is....like....you can't change it, so no use worrying about it. That's always the context I've used it in. Who knows if it makes sense or not. HA! But, I will forever catch people saying it & think of you from now on! haha =)

  • Nicole,
I have been reading your blog for months and have been waiting for updates. Then I don't check for like a week and suddenly there are tons of entries to catch up on. I love seeing what you, Glen, and the kids are upto. I am right there with you about the "it is what it is" statement. I never say it. I think people use it to explain their issues.

  • Yah!! I'm so glad you found my blog cuz I had no idea you had one either. That is so exciting.

It is so funny you guys have a "phrase". Stacy and I do the same thing when someone says "obviously". Mostly because I used to say it all the time and he always made fun of me, so now we laugh when we hear others say it.

  • Well its not rocket science nicole. When people say it, it usually means that no matter what they do, some things will never change. "It is what it is". Like Cody doesn't like that I'm a total neat freak but...it is what it is cuz I don't want to change.

    ...you texans...:I
